Topsoe to provide technology for Texas green ammonia project
Topsoe has signed an agreement with First Ammonia, a company developing modular, commercial-scale plants to produce green ammonia from renewable energy sources, to provide Topsoe’s dynamic ammonia synthesis technology for First Ammonia’s planned green ammonia production facility in Victoria, Texas. Topsoe says that the project marks another important step toward commercial-scale green ammonia production in the United States. Based on green hydrogen generated by electrolysis using renewable electricity, the facility is designed to produce green ammonia for both international and US markets. Financial close is expected later in 2026, with commercial operations anticipated to begin in 2029.
Yassir Ghiyati, Chief Commercial Officer, Topsoe, said: “As green ammonia projects move from ambition to execution, operational flexibility becomes increasingly important. We’re proud to support First Ammonia with technology designed to enable efficient and reliable green ammonia production. We look forward to continuing to work with the First Ammonia team to help bring this important US project to life.”
Under the agreement, Topsoe will provide its dynamic ammonia synthesis technology, designed specifically for green ammonia plants. The technology enables production to ramp up from 10-100%, or to decrease at similar rate, within thirty minutes, allowing the ammonia synthesis loop to respond to fluctuations in power generation while maintaining safe, reliable and efficient operations.
