Sulphur recovery contract for Tayseer Gas Project

Worley Comprimo, in partnership with BASF, has been awarded a contract to deliver engineering and licensing services for integrated gas treatment technology and sulphur recovery units at Oman’s Budour Tayseer Gas Project. The project is designed to produce 2 million scf/d of sweet gas, 950 m³/day of condensate, and 80 t/d of sulphur. It aims to strengthen Oman’s energy infrastructure by ensuring a reliable domestic gas supply under a design-build-own-operate-maintain framework, while supporting in-country value initiatives.

Under the contract, Worley Comprimo will provide an integrated gas treating and sulphur recovery solution through a single licensor model. The scope includes key processing units such as the acid gas removal unit, adsorption unit, sulphur recovery unit, tail gas treatment unit, and sulphur degassing facilities. By combining specialist gas treating and sulphur recovery expertise, the project is expected to achieve more efficient engineering schedules and streamlined execution compared with projects where acid gas removal and sulphur recovery units are tendered separately.

Worley Comprimo says that it also builds on their long-standing collaboration with BASF and will utilise BASF’s OASE purple M and Durasorb adsorbent technologies, for which Worley Comprimo is a licensor. OASE purple M hybrid solvent technology is designed for deep acid gas removal and selective hydrogen sulphide, combining proprietary solvent formulations with advanced rate-based design and simulation capabilities. Durasorb further treats the gas by removing water and mercaptans to low concentration levels. The closed-loop process eliminates the need for spent regeneration gas treatment and enables efficient removal of sulphur compounds, including mercaptans and carbonyl sulphide, while reducing hydrocarbon co-absorption.
