Nextchem licenses biomass-to-syngas SAF project in Canada
Written by Natalie Noor-Drugan
Nextchem, part of MAIRE, has licensed its proprietary NX Circular™ high‑temperature gasification technology to Sustaero GP Inc. for a biomass‑to‑syngas unit feeding a new SAF plant in Canada.
The plant will convert forest residues into purified chemical‑grade syngas, with start‑up targeted for 2030 and planned SAF output of up to 144,000 t/y, with potential to expand capacity up to fourfold.
Post‑FID, the agreement may extend to a full process design package, proprietary equipment, technical services and catalyst supply for the gasification and syngas cleaning section.
“This agreement confirms market interest in our gasification solutions for waste‑to‑value applications,” said Fabio Fritelli, managing director of Nextchem. “We evaluated all technologies and NX Circular™ delivered the cleanest syngas from biomass,” added Sustaero CEO Keith Gillard.
