ANALYSIS: High gas prices risk long-term impact on European fertiliser industry
Written by Beatrice Bedeschi
High natural gas prices are pushing European fertiliser producers to halt or curtail production, mirroring what seen in 2022 at the start of the Ukraine war, prompting a shift towards imports that might have lasting consequences on the sector, a CRU analyst told BCInsight.
Fertiberia halted ammonia and urea production at its Palos de la Frontera facility in Huelva, Spain citing the rise in European gas prices.
