Fast track for green methanol project
Written by Richard Hands
The governing council of Castilla y León has agreed to grant priority industrial project status to the eM-Numancia project. EM-Numancia is a €320 million green methanol project which aims to combine renewable hydrogen produced by water electrolysis using renewable electricity with syngas generated by the gasification of forest biomass – principally pine wood. The facility will also incorporate CO2 capture and recovery systems. Initial nominal capacity is set at 100,000 t/a of renewable methanol per year, although expansion plans envisage that capacity could eventually reach 200,000 t/a, depending on electricity supply availability. The project includes a new 132 kV underground power line to connect the plant to the local Soria substation.
