Linde to lead blue ammonia project

Linde to lead blue ammonia project

Linde Engineering has been appointed to lead the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the WAH2 blue ammonia plant in Western Australia. This plant is expected to produce around 650,000 t/a of low carbon ammonia using natural gas feedstock and carbon capture technology. Project partner NH3 Clean Energy says that the project’s aim is not only to produce clean ammonia but to ship it as a greener commodity to Asian markets, aligning with global decarbonisation efforts, particularly for countries like Japan and South Korea that are in search of low-carbon fuel sources.

NH3 Clean Energy says that the partnership is designed to address potential technological and performance challenges by leveraging Linde’s expertise ranging from front-end engineering design (FEED) to advanced carbon capture strategies. Notably, Linde is exploring innovative business models, including build-own-operate (BOO) and operation and maintenance (O&M) frameworks, which could alleviate upfront costs and risks for NH3 Clean Energy.

Other decarbonisation plans are also underway in the Pilbara region for CO2 pipeline development in collaboration with the Australian Gas Infrastructure Group, enabling efficient transport and storage of emissions from blue hydrogen and ammonia production.

Cherepovets hit by drone strikes; phosphate impact unclear

Multiple drone strikes have hit the industrial city of Cherepovets in Russia's Vologda Oblast region, according to Russian news agency TASS. The area contains PhosAgro's largest phosphate fertilizer production site. Cherepovets has a production capacity of around 700,000 t/a NPK and around 814,000 t/year DAP/MAP, according to CRU data, making it the largest phosphate fertilizer production site across Europe and the CIS. The site also contains several sulphuric acid plants with a combined capacity of 4.5 million t/a, making it Russia's largest production hub for the acid. This entire volume is consumed domestically.
