NextChem wins contract for blue hydrogen project

NextChem subsidiary KT Tech has been awarded a licensing, process design package and engineering services contract by a major international energy company for the application of its proprietary NX eBlue™ (electric steam methane reforming) technology for the production of low-carbon hydrogen in the Southwest of the United States. NX eBlue™ technology, part of NextChem’s technological portfolio for syngas and hydrogen production, features an innovative electric steam methane reforming reactor along with a dedicated process scheme to produce low-carbon hydrogen. This technology significantly reduces CO2 production and incorporates integrated carbon capture to further minimise CO2 emissions, all allowing for operational flexibility and scalability.

NextChem to supply technology for low carbon methanol plant

NextChem subsidiary KT Tech has been awarded a licensing contract for the implementation of NextChem’s proprietary NX AdWinMethanol® Zero technology for Pacifico Mexinol, an ultra-low carbon methanol facility near Los Mochis, Sinaloa, on the Pacific coast of Mexico, which will have a planned output in excess of 2.1 million t/a. Transition Industries LLC, based in Houston, Texas, is developing Pacifico Mexinol with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group. When it initiates operation in 2028, Pacifico Mexinol is expected to be the largest single ultra-low carbon methanol facility in the world – producing approximately 350,000 t/a of green methanol and 1.8 million t/a of blue methanol annually from natural gas with carbon capture.The value of the licensing award is in the low tens of million euros, with the whole package estimated to be about e250 million, including basic engineering, proprietary and critical equipment supply, as well as assistance to commissioning, start-up and operation of the facility.

Hydrogen plant for Pengerang refinery

KT-Kinetics technology has signed an $125 million engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contract to build a hydrogen production unit at Petronas’ Pengerang Biorefinery, Malaysia. The hydrogen plan is expected to be operational by the second half of 2028, and will supply up to 38,000 normal m3 /h of hydrogen for the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO). NextChem will license its NX ReformTM technology for the unit. The new biorefinery will process approximately 650,000 t/a of raw materials such as used vegetable oils, animal fats and waste from the processing of vegetable oils to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) and bio-naphtha.
