Trump waives tariffs on those breaching Russian sanctions
Written by Richard Hands
President Donald Trump has waived additional tariffs on Russian imports and secondary duties on countries purchasing Russian energy, effectively suspending the tariff provisions of the Lindsay Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act just two days before their 18 October implementation deadline.
In an executive order issued on 16 October, Trump invoked the Act’s national-interest waiver authority to suspend the application of a 500% tariff on Russian-origin goods and 100% secondary tariffs on major buyers of Russian energy and countries facilitating sanctions evasion. The waivers also cover several other sanctions provisions under the Act.
