Vinachem restarts $492 million potash project in Laos

    Written by Sofia D'Olivo

State-owned Vietnam National Chemical Group (Vinachem) and its partner Vietnam Energy and Mining Investment Joint Stock Company have restarted a potash mining and processing project in Laos. The project targets production of 500,000 t/y of potassium chloride from 2028.

The project was halted in 2017 following financing difficulties and low potash prices. Vietnamese authorities approved cooperation between the partners in July 2026, and a restart ceremony took place on 12 October at the plant site in Muangkhay village, Nongbok district, Khammouane province.
