Maire's Nextchem targets China's industrial transformation market

Written by Natalie Noor-Drugan

Nextchem, the sustainable technology subsidiary of Italian engineering group MAIRE, has inaugurated a new office in Beijing, deepening the group’s commitment to China and the broader Asian region as it seeks to expand its portfolio of sustainable industrial technologies in one of the world’s fastest-evolving industrial markets.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by representatives of the Italian diplomatic community, including Cristina Carenza, Deputy Head of Mission of the Italian Embassy in China, alongside Chinese institutional and industrial partners and MAIRE’s top management.

Building on three decades of presence

The new office builds on a long-established footprint in China. MAIRE’s engineering and construction subsidiary Tecnimont has been active in the country since 1994, giving the group deep relationships with Chinese industrial clients and partners across the energy and chemicals sectors.

Fabrizio Di Amato, Founder and Chairman of MAIRE, said: “Opening our office in Beijing represents a strategic step in MAIRE’s international development. Looking to China today means looking to innovation, advanced technologies and new industrial models which provide a strong stimulus for the deployment of our increasingly innovative solutions in a market with a strong potential.”

Sustainable technologies at the core

Nextchem leads MAIRE’s Sustainable Technology Solutions business unit, with a portfolio spanning low-carbon hydrogen, circular economy processes, and technologies for the energy and critical raw materials sectors. The Beijing office is designed to bring Nextchem closer to Chinese customers and partners, offering solutions tailored to local market needs.

Di Amato added: “By strengthening our presence here through Nextchem, we aim to combine our global technological expertise with local partnerships, contributing to sustainable industrial growth and long-term cooperation with Chinese clients and partners.”

Coromandel starts trial operations at new acid plants

Coromandel International says that it has started trial production at its new sulphuric acid and phosphoric acid plants in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. The company says that this marks a crucial step towards transforming the unit into a fully integrated facility, significantly enhancing production capacity and diminishing reliance on imported raw materials for fertiliser manufacturing. The company is now focusing on a phased ramp-up. The new plants have of 2,000 t/d of sulphuric acid and 650 t/d of phosphoric acid, respectively. The integration of these acid plants is strategic, aligning with Coromandel's objective to strengthen backward integration in its fertiliser manufacturing value chain. By producing key intermediates in-house, the company aims to secure stable supplies, enhance cost efficiencies, and achieve greater self-sufficiency, thereby reducing dependence on imported raw materials. The project aims to replace over 50% of the Kakinada plant's imported acid requirements and mirror the integration levels seen at its Vizag and Ennore facilities.
