QatarEnergy signs 15-year urea deal with Koch
Written by Natalie Noor-Drugan
QatarEnergy has agreed a 15-year urea supply contract with Koch Fertilizer, covering up to 740,000 t/y of Qatari-origin product from July 2024 into the US and other export markets. The deal gives Koch long-term third‑party urea volumes to feed its distribution network alongside output from its own nitrogen assets in North America, Trinidad and Tobago and Morocco.
Qatar is the world’s second-largest urea exporter, with Qatar Fertilizer Company (QAFCO), a QatarEnergy affiliate, described as the world’s largest integrated single-site producer of urea and ammonia. The companies said the contract supports supply into the global agricultural sector and reflects a relationship that has already run for more than a decade.
Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of QatarEnergy, said the agreement “marks a significant step in advancing synergy and cooperation and fostering mutual growth and value for both sides.”
Koch Fertilizer President Mark Luetters said the long-term deal “aligns with Koch Fertilizer’s long-term vision and presents an exciting opportunity to better serve our customers.”
Koch Fertilizer and its affiliates are among the world’s largest fertilizer producers and marketers, with a portfolio spanning ammonia, urea, UAN and phosphate-based fertilizers, including a 50:50 joint venture with OCP at Jorf Lasfar in Morocco.
