Dyno Nobel has signed a binding agreement for the sale of the Phosphate Hill plant in Australia to Ryowa II GPS Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Mayfair Australia Corporation, it announced 9 March. The purchase is for a nominal A$1.00 (US$0.70), with a deferred value of up to A$100 million payable to Dyno Nobel subject to certain conditions and performance hurdles. Phosphate Hill produces around 400,000 t/a DAP and 200,000 t/a MAP.
Pilbara Ports has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Yara Pilbara for low carbon ammonia bunkering. The companies have agreed to collaborate on government and stakeholder advocacy, develop a training program for safe ammonia handling, and are planning the necessary fuelling infrastructure at Dampier and Port Hedland ports as part of the Pilbara Clean Fuel Bunkering Initiative.

Chatham Rock Phosphate has agreed to sell its wholly-owned Australian subsidiary Avenir Makatea Pty Ltd to Austure Industries Pty Ltd for A$1.4 million, including A$900,000 in cash over a 24-month period, and a 20% shareholding in Austure Phosphate AU Pty Ltd, a newly-formed subsidiary of Austure, to establish a mono- and dicalcium phosphate manufacturing plant in Cloncurry. Viva Energy has commissioned a new ultra-low sulphur gasoline (ULSG) plant at its Geelong refinery to meet Australia’s updated fuel standards, which came into effect on December 15. Under the standards, all gasoline grades must contain a maximum of 10 parts per million (ppm) sulphur, a so-called Euro-V standard. The ULSG plant was officially opened by the Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Chris Bowen MP, alongside Viva Energy Chairman Robert Hill and CEO Scott Wyatt.
Austrlai’s Northern Territories Government has approved a mining licence for Verdant Minerals’ Ammaroo phosphate project. The approval follows the granting of two mineral leases in March and represents a critical step towards construction and mining operations at one of the world’s largest phosphate resources. Verdant estimates the value of production over the life of the mine to exceed $15 billion. Verdant says that securing the mining licence puts the project firmly on track to reach a final investment decision and commence construction as early as mid-2027. Located 200 kilometres south-east of Tennant Creek, the Ammaroo phosphate deposit contains more than one billion tonnes of phosphate ore.

Ardea Resources says that its Kalgoorlie Nickel Project in Western Australia has secured a crucial renewal of its major project status from the federal government for another three years, underscoring the project’s strategic importance, granting it streamlined approvals and direct access to the country’s major project facilitation agency. Located 80 km from Kalgoorlie, the project hosts what Ardea says is the world’s largest undeveloped nickel-cobalt resource, containing 854 million tonnes averaging 0.71% (6.1 million tonnes) of nickel and 0.045% (386,000 tonnes) of cobalt.
