Duty investigation into insoluble sulphur imports

India’s Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGRT) has initiated an investigation into imports of insoluble sulphur from China, based on an application from a domestic company. The investigation aims to determine if subsidies are causing injury to Indian producers and to recommend applicable duties.

Insoluble sulphur is a polymeric form of sulphur used as a vulcanisation agent mainly in tyre and rubber manufacturing. OCCL Limited, the sole Indian producer, filed the application, although Indian imports of insoluble sulphur are relatively small, and mainly for R&D purposes. The applicant alleges several subsidies benefiting Chinese producers, including preferential loans, tax incentives, land grants, and export assistance.
