Development begins on Kazakh urea project
Kazakhstan’s KazMunayGas (KMG) and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) have commenced the development of a urea project planned for construction in the country’s Aktobe region, Interfax reported 31 March.
“KMG, together with CNPC, has launched a project for urea production in the Aktobe Region. The design capacity of the new plant, which is targeted for commissioning by 2029, is 800,000 tonnes of urea a year,” KMG Chief Executive Officer Askhat Khasenov was cited as saying.
The pair entered into a framework agreement for the project back in July 2025. As previously reported, the $1.25 billion plant will be located near the Zhanazhol Gas Processing Plant, which would provide the complex with up to 600 million m3 of gas per year.
